Ear Aches May Be Something to Come Talk with Us About

Posted on 8/20/2018 by Dr. Simon Choyee
Ear Aches May Be Something to Come Talk with Us AboutIf you're having an ear ache that is not explained by an infection or other health condition, you may want to come and talk to us about it. Sometimes the source of an ear ache can be traced to an unrelated body part and it often can be found in the mouth.

For example, you are suffering from a toothache, nerves found in your face and neck can be affected due to their close proximity to each other. Doctors call this type of pain that starts in one area and affects another one in the body as referred pain.

When Ear Aches are Related to The Mouth

One of the most common oral health conditions that can give you an ear ache Is Temporomandibular Joint Disease or TMD. If you have any issues with the jaw and the muscles around it can cause pain in your ears.

In addition, things such as a cavity, tooth abscess or an impacted molar can also result in bad ear aches and if your pain is not going away for several days, it is a good idea to call our office, so we can check out what is going on.

When the earache is accompanied by a sore throat, that could mean that you have tonsillitis or pharyngitis and you may require a prescription medication. It is common to have an earache with these conditions, so don't disregard your symptoms that last for over a week.

More serious conditions such as cancer can also cause ear pain and if you are suffering from a high fever or sore throat that is not going away, you should get it checked out as soon as possible. It's important not to ignore symptoms that are causing you ear aches and come to talk about it with us, after other illnesses have been ruled out.

What Our Patients Are Saying About Us

"I recently had to have a tooth extracted and was very nervous. Dr. Choyee and his staff went over and above to make me feel comfortable. It turned out to be an easy procedure and I was done quickly. I would definitely recommend Dr. Choyee for any oral surgery needs you may have. Dr. Choyee even called me that evening to make sure I was doing well and had no problems!"
